Cookies and browser storage

WorldSays uses browser storage for first-party functions and integrates Google AdSense for advertising.

Local storage

A random anonymous device UUID is stored under a first-party local-storage key so the API can enforce one vote record per browser, poll and day while still allowing a choice change. A separate preference stores the selected language. Clearing storage resets these browser-side values but is not a guarantee that prior server records are deleted.

Session storage

After a successful two-finger local-map gesture, a session-only flag suppresses repeated gesture hints across country and city pages. It expires with the browser session.

Cookies

The WorldSays application does not set a product cookie for voting and API requests omit credentials. Hosting and security infrastructure may set strictly necessary or protection-related cookies in some environments. In particular, the protected Vercel staging Preview can use authentication behavior that is separate from the production product.

Advertising and consent

Google AdSense may use cookies or similar technologies for ad serving, frequency capping, fraud prevention, measurement and reporting and, where consented, personalization. Consent choices for relevant regions are managed through Google’s certified consent management platform (CMP) flow for the EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland. Refusing advertising consent does not disable all storage: strictly necessary hosting and security technologies may still operate independently.

Managing storage

Use your browser’s site-data controls to inspect or clear local storage and cookies. Blocking required local storage may prevent the browser identifier or language preference from persisting, but public aggregate pages remain viewable.
